Counselling & Psychotherapy
My approach is rooted in the belief that individuals have an inherent capacity for self-awareness and self-healing. This approach underscores the importance of the therapeutic relationship, personal growth, and self-fulfilment. The goal is to provide you with a safe space to talk so you can find clarity and healing. I have extensive experience in addressing a wide range of issues such as;
Anxiety | Bereavement | Chronic Fatigue | ME | Chronic Illness | Depression | Developmental Trauma | Life Changes | Low Self-Esteem | Managing Emotions | Personal Development | Personality Disorders | Relationship Issues | Trauma | Living with someone else’s substance use
Understanding the differences between counselling and psychotherapy can help you make an informed decision on which type of therapy is right for you.
Counselling
Counselling addresses specific difficulties or problems that may not necessarily be rooted in the past, such as bereavement or recent life changes. It is usually shorter-term, lasting several weeks or months, and employs techniques such as active listening, empathy, paraphrasing, and questioning.
Psychotherapy
On the other hand, psychotherapy is more likely to deal with deep-rooted issues affecting your life, such as childhood trauma or long-standing psychological difficulties. It tends to be a more in-depth and long-term process that could last months or years. The primary aim is to facilitate significant changes in personality or psyche by exploring the subconscious and nervous system.

FAQs
Sessions are usually held weekly at the same scheduled time and last for 50 minutes. Attending counselling sessions regularly helps to establish a strong therapeutic relationship and build momentum, which supports making consistent progress on your healing journey. Please feel free to get in touch to discuss other options if weekly attendance is difficult for you.
Counselling can benefit anyone, whether you are dealing with a specific issue or a challenging life event or just need support in managing day-to-day life. However, finding a counsellor with the expertise to help you achieve your goals is important. If you are unsure if therapy is for you, please contact me for more information and come along for a taster session with no obligation to continue.
If you are unable to attend regular face to face sessions, I offer online video counselling via Zoom. This option is convenient if you are not in the Salisbury area or have difficulty travelling to and from our sessions. On your first session, we will discuss the frequency and type of session that best suits your needs.
I charge £60 for individual sessions and £80 for couples or family sessions. Payment is due on the same day and can be paid by cash or bank transfer. Supervision for student counsellors is £50 for 1 hour or £70 for 1.5 hours. I offer concessionary rates, which can be discussed in your first session.
A counselling session is an opportunity to confidentially discuss anything – from everyday events, problems, and thoughts to feelings, memories, and dreams. Sessions provide a safe space to explore things in depth, exactly how you experience them, their impact on your life and goals, and where you want to make changes. Counselling gives you the tools and understanding to navigate challenging life events, establishing a solid foundation as you journey through life.
Depending on what you would like to achieve through therapy and what kind of issue you are exploring, you might only need a few sessions. However, counselling can continue for months of even years. For example, long-term problems rooted in early life will take longer to work through as they are more complex in nature. You are free to end counselling at anytime should you feel it has met your needs. Planning an ending with advanced notice allows us time to review what you have achieved and ensure you leave feeling safe and confident about the future.
Please give as much notice as possible when unable to attend a regular session due to a holiday. 48 hours notice is required should you need to cancel a session. Sessions missed without notice or within 48 hours days will be charged in full.
Our counselling sessions are strictly confidential and adhere to professional codes of ethics. Your trust in the confidentiality of our sessions serve as a foundation for our therapeutic relationship. The only exceptions to confidentiality are in accordance with the Children’s Act 1989, concerns about personal safety, and in relation to major crimes as required by law.
