About Kate
I’m Kate Dalton, a counsellor in the Salisbury area with over 20 years of experience. I work with adults, couples, and families, offering short-term counselling and longer-term/open-ended therapy, adjusting to your needs and preferences. My approach is Humanistic Integrative. Above all, I work in an open and relaxed way, creating a comfortable environment for you to feel safe to explore and find your way forward.
My Therapeutic Style
In 2003, I first graduated as a counsellor, which provided me with a psychodynamic base. This theoretical tool explores the unconscious influence of our early experiences on our present-day life. I have also received additional training in Attachment Theory (an understanding of early development), Family Systemic Theory (how we adapt and change to the environments we live in) and Transactional Analysis (exploring the dynamics between people). I work trauma-informed, understanding the role that our nervous systems play in safety and how this informs our lives at a deeply implicit level. I am interested in the mind and body connection and how learning to hear our internal voices can lead to deeper self-connection and healing.
Experience
I have 15 years of experience working with families in the Families Department of Action on Addiction (Clouds), providing services to support those coping with someone else’s substance use. During my time there, I facilitated residentials and support groups and provided one-to-one counselling. Within the MPACT program, I also played a key role, working as a developer, facilitator, and trainer. Currently, I am involved with Redlands Counselling Training, where I train new counsellors at Levels 2, 3, 4, (Diploma in Therapeutic counselling) and 5 (Psychotherapeutic counselling). My most recent additional training has been a four-month online course, Frank Anderson’s Internal Family Systems Trauma Training, which I am integrating into my practice.
